Nepal: Normalcy returns to districts affected by religious unrest

Communal clashes that had been simmering for the past few days in the Madhesh and Koshi provinces along the Indian border in southern Nepal subsided, and normalcy returned on Monday.

On July 26 in Sunsari district of Koshi province, during separate events held by two communities, a clash broke out over the use of loudspeakers and the hoisting of religious flags. Three people were killed in the incident, and the violence spread to neighboring districts.

Now that the violence has eased and law and order have been restored, the curfew and restriction orders imposed as a precautionary measure have been relaxed.
