The memorandum of understanding for the scheme to send graduates who have undergone vocational training in ITI educational institutions in Tamil Nadu to Japan for employment opportunities was signed today at the Secretariat in Chennai.
Labour Welfare Minister Mohamed Parvez signed the memorandum of understanding and spoke about the scheme.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Minister Mohamed Parvez said that, in line with the guidance of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, various pioneering schemes are being introduced to provide international employment opportunities for the youth in Tamil Nadu.
A new memorandum of understanding has been signed with a Japanese company to enable students trained at government industrial training institutes in Tamil Nadu to receive vocational training abroad.
At present, there are 132 government industrial training institutes and 277 private industrial training institutes functioning in Tamil Nadu.
Government industrial training institutes provide training in traditional trades such as fitter, electrician, AC mechanic, welder, and computer, as well as in modern industry-standard trades such as advanced CNC robotics and electric vehicle technology.
In the 2026 academic year, 80 percent of the student admission seats allocated in 132 government industrial training institutes have been filled.
Direct admissions will continue until 31.8.26. Among the students who completed training last year, 95 percent were placed in leading domestic companies.
In accordance with the Chief Minister’s guidance, and with the aim of enabling youth to secure employment at the international level, as a first step, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed by the Employment and Training Department, the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, and Ehime Nissan Company to provide special technical training to students who have undergone training in automobile-related trades at government industrial training institutes in Tamil Nadu, and to arrange employment for them in automobile service at Ehime Nissan Company in Japan.
Accordingly, six months of Japanese language training, technical training, and transportation expenses for the vocational trainees undergoing training are provided by the Egime Nissan company.
He noted that for going to Japan, language training expenses, assistance with document preparation, medical examination fees, and visa fees will all be borne by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation.
