Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge today shared in the Rajya Sabha about an incident that happened to him in Haldwani city, Uttarakhand.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore has posted about this on his X page.
"Condemnation satyagraha tomorrow against the insult inflicted on All India Congress Committee president and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge

Dear all, greetings.
A massive public meeting was held in Haldwani city, Uttarakhand state, on August 8, in which All India Congress Committee President Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge participated.
Seeing the overwhelming support this gathering received from the public, extremist right-wing groups, driven by jealousy, claimed that because Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge comes from a humble social background, the venue had been “defiled” by his presence, and they “purified” the place by sprinkling Ganga water.
This regressive act, carried out with caste hatred and an untouchability mindset, is not just an affront to Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the All India Congress Committee;
it is a challenge to the Constitution of India itself, which upholds equality, fraternity, social justice, and human dignity.
Therefore, strongly condemning this act of disrespect and the mindset of caste discrimination, and expressing the full support of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to All India Congress Committee President Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge,

Dear all, greetings.
In Uttarakhand state,
in the city of Haldwani on August 8, the All India…
Tomorrow (14.08.2026) evening, protest satyagraha demonstrations should also be held by the District Congress Committees in all district headquarters across Tamil Nadu.
This protest, to be held under the leadership of district leaders, should begin from the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and conclude in front of the statue of Revolutionary Ambedkar.
There, a satyagraha protest should be conducted, and the Congress party’s firm condemnation of caste discrimination and the mentality of untouchability should be recorded.
We request all district and regional administrators, front organizations, members of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament, local representatives, and Congress workers to participate in large numbers and conduct this struggle with enthusiasm and strength.
Let us loudly declare that there is no place on Indian soil for casteist attitudes that stand against equality and social justice."
