Chennai: The AIADMK urged the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to take immediate action against the 6 MLAs who resigned from their posts.

AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamurthy met Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar at the Secretariat in Chennai yesterday.

Later, he told reporters: We have been continuously urging the Speaker to take action under the anti-defection law against the 6 MLAs who were elected on behalf of the AIADMK, resigned in the horse-trading, and joined the ruling party.

In this regard, even though three complaint petitions have been submitted so far on behalf of AIADMK General Secretary Palaniswami, no action has been taken. Therefore, we met the Speaker again and urged him to take appropriate action in this matter.

Also, the Speaker did not provide some of the clarifications we had requested based on the letters already submitted. Following this, we have asked for copies of the explanation letters submitted by the MLAs who resigned.

He has said that he will provide it. Only if we know what explanation those who resigned have given can we convey the appropriate response to the Speaker. General Secretary Palaniswami will decide whether to appear for the inquiry on July 30. He said this.
