The fourth day of the budget debate session is being held in the Legislative Assembly today (Aug. 10).
Meanwhile, during the debate, "Speaking as an orator and a Tamil enthusiast, I think the Finance Minister (Maria Wilson) will be proficient in English.

His English was very polished. But while reading the budget, he left out a few phrases in Tamil. I respectfully request that in the future the Finance Minister speak in Tamil without errors," said MLA Rajendran.
To that, the Speaker said, ``When MLA Rajendran speaks, he says budget. It would be better if he said financial statement in Tamil."
Speaking in response to MLA Rajendran’s remarks, Finance Minister Mari Wilson said, “I have been in the education department for 25 years. All my communication has been in English.
For some time now in this council, those who mocked appearance, caste, and women have now turned to mocking language.

Christianity has taught me a language: the language of love, the language of peace, the language of compassion. No matter how much Tamil one studies, half the people do not know this.
I have read the Bible. This is how I speak; this is my style. I cannot change myself for MLA Rajendran," Maria Wilson said.
