The Chennai Meteorological Department has stated that heavy rain is likely on Friday (Aug. 7) in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Theni in Tamil Nadu.
Regarding this, the press release issued on Thursday said:
A low-pressure trough extends from the southwest Bay of Bengal to the Lakshadweep area, passing through southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala, up to an altitude of about 5.8 km to 7.6 km. A low-level atmospheric trough exists over the coastal areas of North Tamil Nadu. As a result, on Friday (Aug. 7) in Tamil Nadu, there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder, lightning, and strong winds at one or two places in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Theni districts, and in the Nilgiris district. In other western ghats districts, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, and Namakkal districts, there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder, lightning, and strong winds at one or two places.
On Friday (Aug. 7), Chennai and Puducherry are likely to receive moderate rain in some areas during the evening and night.
In one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, moderate rain is likely from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12.
Rainfall record: In Tamil Nadu, as of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Chennai’s Madhavaram and Ice House areas, with 40 mm of rain.
