Deeran Thirumurugan of the Naam Tamilar Katchi and lawyer Seeni Ahmed filed a petition in the Madurai Bench of the High Court seeking a ban on providing government jobs to the families of those who died in the Karur stampede. In it, they said, 'A CBI investigation into the Karur incident is being conducted under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. In this situation, providing government jobs to the families of the deceased would affect the investigation, and there is also a possibility that witnesses may be influenced.
People have died in various incidents in Tamil Nadu. Government jobs were not provided to their family members. Providing government jobs to the families of those who died in the Karur incident would set a wrong precedent. Therefore, it was stated that an order should be issued prohibiting the granting of government jobs until the CBI investigation is completed. Meanwhile, last month, Chief Minister Vijay issued appointment orders to the relatives of those who died in the Karur stampede.
The case filed in the Madurai session was said to be heard and concluded before the first month’s salary is paid to those given government jobs.
Accordingly, it came up for hearing before the judges today.
On the government side, it was stated, "As far as compassionate appointment is concerned, there are certain guidelines. It should be given only on the basis of eligibility, such as age and education. That is how the government jobs in the Karur incident were provided. We do not know how they are opposing this."
Continuing to speak on this, the judges said, "The question also arises: what if the government provides employment to the families of those who died in government bus accidents? In a place like Sivakasi, where explosions occur frequently, what would be done if they demand government jobs?
Many people are waiting for employment. We thought Dinbissi would provide details about that. However, it has been found that the government order has exempted obtaining its approval for making appointments permanent on the basis of compassionate employment.
Wouldn’t it be better to help the affected person’s family by providing skill development training? That would be more beneficial than giving jobs in this manner.
It cannot be accepted that the government side is saying that ordinary jobs will be provided. No job is an ordinary job. It is a job that helps a person's family.
Therefore, the government order granting government jobs to the families of those who died in the Karur stampede is being canceled," they said in the order.
