Chennai Corporation has introduced a plan to provide free Wi-Fi facilities at beaches that attract large crowds. As a result, it is expected that free Wi-Fi will soon be available to the public at beaches including Marina.
It has been nearly five years since free Wi-Fi poles were installed in many parts of Chennai city, and many of them have now become nonfunctional.
Therefore, it has been planned to make use of the poles that are still in working condition. New Wi-Fi poles will also be installed at 120 new locations.
This project will be implemented through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Internet service providers (ISPs) have agreed to provide free Wi-Fi service, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Sameeran said.
Under this project, 50 Wi-Fi poles will be installed at Marina Beach, 25 each at Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur beaches, and 10 Wi-Fi poles each at Neelankarai and Thiruvottiyur beaches. In addition, some Wi-Fi facilities will also be set up in parks and sports stadiums.
It is noteworthy that in 2021, a project to create free Wi-Fi facilities in several places in Chennai was introduced and implemented.
