Chennai: The unused free Wi-Fi facility at 44 locations, including Marina Beach and Besant Nagar Beach, has been brought into public use.
In this regard, a press release issued by the Chennai Corporation said: The Tamil Nadu government has been making continuous efforts to promote the growth of artificial intelligence, information technology, and digital services, and to make those services easily accessible to the public.
As part of this, and in accordance with the Chief Minister’s orders, steps have been taken to provide high-quality free Wi-Fi facilities in Chennai’s heavily frequented beach areas, playgrounds, and parks so that people can use the internet without interruption.
Accordingly, in the first phase, free Wi-Fi service has been brought into use from yesterday at a total of 44 locations: 27 spots in the Marina Beach area under the corporation, from the Labour Statue to the Lighthouse; 5 spots in the Besant Nagar Beach area; and 12 spots in the Secretariat Park.
To use this service, the public must turn on Wi-Fi on their mobile phones and scan the QR code placed at various locations. By entering the OTP number received through it, they can access the Wi-Fi facility. People can use this for free.
Following this, it has been stated that steps are being taken to bring back into use the unused Wi-Fi facilities in other places where large numbers of people gather, such as other beach areas, parks, and playgrounds, as well as to set up new Wi-Fi facilities.
