Chennai: “Documents can be registered 24 hours a day through presence-less registration,” said Central Chennai Sub-Registrar Naveen.
An awareness program on the presence-less registration system, through which the first sale deed registration for apartment and plot divisions can be carried out online without visiting the Sub-Registrar’s office in person, was held yesterday in Ambattur on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Registration Department and the South Zone of the All India Builders Association.
This event was inaugurated by the association’s former president, Bhishma R. Radhakrishnan. Central Chennai Sub-Registrar K. Naveen participated and explained the new procedures.
Later, speaking to reporters, he said: The registration of the first sale deed for apartments and plots has been made mandatory to be carried out in a ‘contactless’ manner from August 17.
Under the usual procedure, the documents are prepared on stamp paper, a token is obtained online, and on the specified day the buyer, seller, and witnesses all have to go in person to the sub-registrar’s office.
However, under the new ‘presence-less’ system, the public does not need to visit the sub-registrar’s office in person. They can carry out document registration online from any convenient location, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including weekends.
All that is needed is a computer, laptop, or mobile phone with internet access, along with biometric devices such as a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner, and webcam.
The public can submit the documents from wherever they are and complete the registration online. The procedures for this were explained to the public at this meeting. He said this.
