North Korea has accused the United States of tarnishing its image by speaking falsely about the country’s IT workers.
The United States, along with 10 allied countries from Asia and Europe, issued a joint statement saying that North Korea uses its skilled IT workers with fake identities to work for foreign companies in order to raise funds for its nuclear weapons and missile programs.
It stated that North Korean IT workers pose as citizens of other countries on websites to earn income, and then hand that income over to their government.
It was also warned that North Korean workers use artificial intelligence tools to conceal their true identities.
North Korea has been subjected to numerous international sanctions. As a result, there are allegations that the country is widely involved in cybercrime, cryptocurrency, and money laundering activities to raise funds for its programs.
At this stage, North Korea has opposed the joint statement issued by the United States and other countries. In a denial report released by the country’s news agency, it said, “This is a routine political accusation made with the malicious intent of tarnishing our country’s image. It is highly contradictory for the United States, which keeps key resources related to cyberspace under its control, to claim that cyber threats are coming from other countries.
This is nothing more than an excuse by the United States to pressure sovereign nations and justify its illegal policies.”
