Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today (Aug. 10) criticized the communists in the country as complete cowards in the Rajya Sabha.
She said this, referring to Marxist Communist Party MP John Brittas for spreading false information that charges are being levied on UPI transactions.
Marxist Communist Party MP John Brittas walked out of the House after moving a motion to reject the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2026, which was introduced on June 5.
Earlier, while speaking, he criticized the government for deciding to charge fees for UPI transactions, like Brazil, due to pressure from the United States. He also pointed out that India’s digital payments system had been created as a free public service. In the meantime, permission for his speech was denied. Following this, he walked out.
After this, Nirmala Sitharaman spoke in response to the resolution he had proposed, saying:
''If you want to hear even one line that I speak, please remain in the House. Hurling slander at everyone without any evidence is their (the Communists’) style.
They do something like this and then demand, “I should be allowed to speak; it is my right.” But when they are actually answered with facts and figures, they do not accept it. They do not have the courage to face it. Cowards.
The communists in the country are complete cowards, and this member has proved it. They cannot face the truth. But they will shout only to delay things,” said Nirmala Sitharaman.
