Indian athletes have advanced to the finals in swimming and long jump at the Commonwealth Games.
The 23rd Commonwealth Games are being held in Glasgow, Scotland. Competitions are taking place today, the fifth day of the Games.
Long Jump
The qualifying round for the long jump event was held today. Murali Sreeshankar of India, who was placed in Group A, jumped 8.01 meters to take first place. Following this, he advanced to the final round.
Another Indian athlete in Group B, Lokesh Satyanathan, first cleared a distance of 7.77 meters. However, although he did not surpass the qualifying mark in his subsequent attempts, his strong first jump earned him a place in the final round. The final round is scheduled to be held on July 29.
Swimming
In the qualifying round of the swimming competition, Indian athlete Sajan Prakash took part in the men's 200-meter butterfly. He was in the lead for the first 100 meters, but in the end he fell slightly behind. He finished the race in 1:58.59, taking second place and qualifying for the final. The final is scheduled to be held today after 1 a.m.
