Chief Minister Vijay on Wednesday (Aug 5) presented a total incentive of Rs. 80 lakh to three Tamil Nadu athletes who won at the Commonwealth Games.
Three Tamil Nadu athletes won medals at the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. Chief Minister Vijay had announced an incentive of Rs. 80 lakh for all three of them.
Accordingly, Sports Minister Aadhav Arjuna also took part in the event at the Secretariat where Chief Minister Vijay met the three and handed over the cheque for the incentive.
Chief Minister Vijay presented a cheque for a Rs. 30 lakh incentive to Raja Muthupandi, who won the silver medal in the 65 kg category in the men's weightlifting competition.

Following this, Chief Minister Vijay presented a cheque for a Rs. 30 lakh incentive to Praveen Chitravel, who won the silver medal in the men's triple jump event, to his father, S. Chitravel.

Also, Chief Minister Vijay presented a cheque for a Rs. 20 lakh incentive to Selva Prabhu, who won the bronze medal in the men's triple jump event.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that in the 2026 budget, Rs. 1,051 crore has been allocated today to the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department.
