New Delhi: Just as young people celebrated ‘Friendship Day,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed that ‘Handloom Day’ should also be celebrated with the same enthusiasm, in a way that honors the country’s heritage and the livelihoods of weavers.
‘National Handloom Day’ is observed on August 7 to commemorate the 1905 Swadeshi movement against British rule and to realize the dream of a ‘self-reliant India.’
On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an Instagram video and urged that, just as young people celebrate “Friendship Day,” Handloom Day should also be celebrated enthusiastically in a way that honors the livelihoods of weavers.
A rich heritage
Continuing his greetings yesterday on the ‘X’ platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “On National Handloom Day today, we honor India’s rich heritage and pay tribute to the skill and dedication of the weavers and artisans who preserve it.”
