Nanded: Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had arrived in Nanded city in Maharashtra with his family yesterday.
An official said that around 1:45 p.m., while Sukhbir Singh was walking in the Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mukht area of the gurdwara there, a man attacked him with a knife. At the time, his wife and Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal were also with him. Police have arrested one person in connection with the incident and are questioning him.
In this incident, the injured Sukhbir Singh Badal was admitted to a private hospital there. Reports say that his condition is stable. In this attack, a security personnel deployed for Badal’s protection was also injured. In this situation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis contacted Sukhbir Singh Badal by phone and inquired about his condition.
Chief Minister Fadnavis inquired with the Nanded district police superintendent about the details of the attack incident. Officials also said that he instructed the police to conduct a detailed investigation into the reason for the attack. In the video released after the attack, Sukbir Singh Badal is seen walking with a saffron-colored cloth tied around his right hand.
It is noteworthy that last year, in 2024, someone attempted to shoot and kill Sukbir Singh Badal outside the premises of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. He survived the attack without injury.
