Guwahati: As the death toll from the ongoing floods in Assam has risen to 100, more than 137,000 people across 10 districts have been severely affected.
According to a report by the Assam State Disaster Management Information Centre, the 10 districts of Golaghat, Sivasagar, Hojai, Darrang, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Sadiya, Nagaon and Biswanath are inundated by floods. A total of 28 revenue circles and 456 villages in these areas have been affected.
In Golaghat district, the highest number of people affected is 68,239. In Sivasagar district, 39,495 people have been affected, and in Jorhat district, 16,259 people have been affected. Across the state, 11,933 hectares of agricultural land are submerged in water.
According to information released by the Central Water Commission, the Dhansiri River is flowing above the danger level in the Golaghat and Numaligarh areas. The Kushiyara River is also flowing above the danger level in the Sribhumi area.
Due to the flood impact, 125 relief camps and distribution centers have been set up. Around 8,000 people are being safely housed in these camps. Of them, 3,592 are men, 3,437 are women, and 919 are children.
516 houses have been damaged in Sivasagar district. 4,649 people have taken shelter in relief camps there. In the Jorhat area, 107 people have been safely rescued by boats. 59 medical teams are stationed in the flood-affected areas. In addition, rescue operations are being carried out intensively using 10 rescue boats.
