The Tamil Nadu State Committee of the Marxist Communist Party has said that Tamil Nadu’s agricultural budget should be framed in a way that satisfies farmers.
Agriculture Minister Vinod presented Tamil Nadu’s 2026 agricultural budget in the Legislative Assembly today (Aug. 6). Various political parties have been expressing their views on the positions and features mentioned in the budget.
In this situation, CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam has criticized that the agricultural budget should have been framed in a way that brings relief to farmers, and that the TVK has not fulfilled the promises it made to farmers.
In this regard, in the statement he issued,
“The announcements that an organic farming college will be established in the name of Nammalvar, that the promotion of millet production and procurement will be encouraged, that a palm conservation movement will be launched, that a support scheme for banana plants will be introduced, and that 1,000 farmers will be provided with solar-powered pump sets at a subsidy are welcome.
In the budget statement, greater emphasis has been placed on mechanization in agriculture. The report states this on the basis that labor is not available for farm work in villages. Already, there is the distressing situation of agricultural workers migrating because they cannot find work in agriculture.
The absence of any announcement regarding the provision of electricity connections has created suspicion among farmers. The government should announce compensation for damages caused by wild animals.
The budget did not focus on fulfilling the promises made to farmers by the TVK during the legislative assembly election. The Marxist Communist Party has stated that greater importance should have been given to the agriculture sector, which serves as the livelihood for a large section of the people.”
