Congress Member of Parliament and Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore has said that a motion of attention has been brought in Parliament urging the release of the 8 Rameswaram fishermen who have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In this regard, he posted on his X page:
This violation took place while Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was in Colombo. Will Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri not speak to the Sri Lankan government about recovering the seized boats?
Since 2023, a total of 1,306 fishermen have been arrested and 179 boats have been seized, as stated in the Rajya Sabha itself
It has once again come to light that the Modi government, which agrees in response to Praveen Chakravarthy’s question but then slips away from responsibility, has not the slightest concern for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu or the livelihood of fishermen!
He said that to put an end to this continuing violation by Sri Lanka and to urge the immediate release of everyone who has been arrested along with their boats, he has brought a calling-attention motion in Parliament today (Aug 6)!
