There has been widespread speculation in Tamil Nadu's political circles about where DMK leader Vijay will contest in the upcoming assembly elections. Accordingly, the DMK's strategic planning unit considers Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur as favorable constituencies for Vijay to stand from. Whether Perambur Vijay contests in either of the two constituencies, the DMK leadership has decided to field a strong candidate against him. Currently, the MLA of Perambur constituency is R.T. Sekar from the DMK. The debate in the political circles is whether he can be fielded again to effectively challenge Vijay. Because of this, the DMK leadership is considering fielding Minister Sekar Babu, who has a strong presence in North Chennai, in the Perambur constituency.
Only someone like Sekar Babu can secure votes against Vijay. The DMK leadership believes that only someone like him can both rally party workers and spend generously. Anna Arivalayam has now decided that Sekar Babu, the current MLA of the Port constituency, should not contest in the upcoming election there. While he had targeted the Villivakkam constituency, the leadership is considering fielding him against Vijay. However, Sekar Babu's camp thinks there is no need to take unnecessary risks. The DMK believes there is no stronger candidate than Sekar Babu in North Chennai.
If Sekar Babu refuses to contest, the DMK also has the option to stop the popular female candidate. On one side of Tiruchirappalli East, Inigo Irudhayaraj is currently the MLA of Tiruchirappalli East constituency. If Vijay enters the fray there, a team is trying to field Inigo as the candidate.
