Last year, a complaint arose that, by exploiting a technical loophole in the property tax collection software (UTIS software) owned by the Madurai Corporation, corporation officials, contract employees, and intermediaries had colluded to commit irregularities amounting to up to Rs. 200 crore.
This issue caused a stir in Madurai, and the corporation’s mayor, Indrani, resigned from office. An investigation into the complaint is also under way.
In this situation, AIADMK corporation councilors came together yesterday and submitted a petition to the Madurai Range DIG.
After that, speaking to reporters, Solairaja, the leader of the opposition in the corporation from the AIADMK, said, "Officials should conduct a thorough investigation into the complaint regarding the Rs. 200 crore irregularity that took place in the Madurai Corporation.
The investigation carried out on this issue during the DMK regime was not satisfactory.
Whoever is involved in this should be subjected to legal action without bias. If public tax money has been misused, action should be taken to recover that money and return it to the corporation," he said.

தி.மு.க ஆட்சி காலத்தில் இந்த விவகாரம் தொடர்பாக மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட விசாரணை திருப்திகரமாக இல்லை.
இதில் தொடர்புடையவர்கள் யாராக இருந்தாலும் அவர்கள் மீது பாரபட்சமின்றி சட்டப்படி நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும். பொதுமக்களின் வரிப்பணம் முறைகேடாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தால், அந்த நிதியை மீட்டெடுத்து மாநகராட்சிக்குத் திருப்பிச் செலுத்த நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்” எனத் தெரிவித்தார்.
