India’s defence equipment production has risen to Rs. 1.78 lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year, reaching a new peak.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement regarding this:
In the 2024-25 financial year, defence equipment worth Rs. 1.54 lakh crore was produced in India. In this situation, it has increased to Rs. 1.78 lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year. This is a growth of 15.6 percent. In the 2020-21 financial year, defence equipment worth Rs. 84,643 crore was produced. Compared with that, this is 110 percent higher.
In the 2013-14 financial year, Indian defense equipment worth Rs. 43,746 crore was produced. That has now increased fourfold. Defense-sector public sector undertakings and other public sector enterprises are involved in defense equipment production. Their total contribution is 76 percent. Likewise, the private sector’s contribution to Indian defense equipment production is 24 percent. This was 22 percent in the 2024-25 financial year. Similarly, private sector companies have produced defense equipment worth Rs. 42,000 crore, an unprecedented amount. It has been stated that this shows the growing contribution of the private sector to defense equipment production.
Rajnath Singh praises: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the fact that defense equipment production has reached a peak. Speaking about this, he said, “The joint efforts of the defense equipment manufacturing sector and other sectors are the reason for the recent increase in India’s defense equipment production. The rise in equipment production shows that the defense equipment industry in India is expanding,” he noted.
