Nestlé, the manufacturer of the popular instant food Maggi noodles, has denied reports that germs were found in them.
For the past few days, information has been circulating on social media that Maggi noodles contained germs. News reports about this were also published in the media. Based on this report, the Mumbai Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange had sought clarification from Nestlé. Nestlé has now provided an explanation. It stated:
Based on unverified information posted on a social media page claiming that Maggi noodles contained germs, the media has reported the news. We categorically reject the allegations made in it.
Maggi noodles samples for quality testing have not been received by us from the social media page user who made these allegations. The person using that account did not inform us of anything. We have been unable to identify whose account it is.
The Food Quality Control Authority sent other Maggi noodle samples, manufactured along with the Maggi noodles against which allegations were made on social media, to an NABL-accredited laboratory for quality testing. Nestlé has stated that the laboratory that tested them reported that there were no insects in them.
Notice to Nestlé:
Based on the allegations made on the social media page, the Central Food Quality Control Authority has initiated a suo motu investigation into this matter. In addition, the Central Food Quality Control Authority has also sent a notice to Nestlé seeking an explanation on this issue.
