Recognizing the severity of farmers’ livelihoods, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami has urged the DMK government to take all necessary steps to release water from the Mettur Dam.
Regarding the release of water from the Mettur Dam, Edappadi Palaniswami said on his X page: "The water from the Mettur Dam, which is opened every year on June 12, was not released today this year, causing great shock and concern among farmers.
Since kuruvai cultivation depends heavily on the release of Cauvery water from the Mettur Dam, this water release is extremely important.
The present government, which has already cheated farmers by saying it would repay only a tiny portion of the loan amounts, while failing to waive the debts of over Rs. 10,000 crore already outstanding under the name of agricultural crop loans as promised, and has pushed them into the path of protest, has now issued yet another deceptive announcement in the name of a special package worth Rs. 134 crore without releasing water.
Three-phase electricity is already being supplied to farmers for 24 hours as announced by the AIADMK government. The present government has now announced that it will be reduced to 18 hours.
Due to the already unannounced power cuts, there is no electricity across the state, making it impossible to operate pump sets. In this situation, the present government has issued an empty, deceptive announcement without even slightly understanding the pains and sufferings of farmers.
Recognizing the seriousness of this issue, which is related to farmers' livelihoods, we urge this government to take all necessary steps to release water from the Mettur dam and ensure it reaches the tail-end areas," he said.

விவசாயிகளின் வாழ்வாதாரத்தின் தீவிரத்தை உணர்ந்து, மேட்டூர் அணையில் இருந்து நீர் திறப்பதற்கான அனைத்து நடவடிக்கைகளையும் மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு தவெக அரசை அதிமுக பொதுச்செயலாளர் எடப்பாடி பழனிசாமி வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார்.
மேட்டூர் அணை நீர்த் திறப்பு குறித்து எடப்பாடி பழனிசாமி தனது எக்ஸ் பக்கத்தில் தெரிவித்திருப்பதாவது, “ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஜூன் 12 ஆம் தேதியில் திறக்கப்படும் மேட்டூர் அணை நீர், இவ்வாண்டு இன்றைய தினம் திறக்கப்படாததால் விவசாயிகளை பெரும் அதிர்ச்சிக்கும் கவலைக்கும் ஆளாக்கியுள்ளது.
குறுவை சாகுபடி மேட்டூர் அணையில் இருந்து காவிரி நீர்த் திறப்பை பெரிதும் நம்பி இருப்பதால், இந்த நீர் வெளியீடு என்பது மிகவும் முக்கியமானது.
ஏற்கனவே விவசாயப் பயிர்க் கடன் என்ற பெயரில் ரூ. 10,000 கோடிக்கும் மேற்பட்டு இருக்கும் கடன் தொகைகளை சொன்னபடி தள்ளுபடி செய்யாமல், கடுகளவுக் கடனை மட்டும் அடைப்பதாக கூறி விவசாயிகளை ஏமாற்றி, அவர்களை போராட்டக் களத்துக்குத் தள்ளிவிட்டுள்ள இன்றைய அரசு, தற்போது நீர்த் திறப்பு செய்யாமல், ரூ. 134 கோடிக்கு சிறப்பு தொகுப்பு என்ற பெயரில் மற்றுமொரு ஏமாற்று அறிவிப்பை வெளியிட்டு உள்ளது.
மும்முனை மின்சாரம் ஏற்கனவே விவசாயிகளுக்கு 24 மணி நேரம் அதிமுக அரசின் அறிவிப்பின்படி வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அதை தற்போது 18 மணிநேரமாகக் குறைத்து அறிவித்துள்ளது இன்றைய அரசு.
ஏற்கனவே அறிவிக்கப்படாத மின்வெட்டால் மாநிலம் முழுக்க மின்சாரம் இல்லாததால் பம்பு செட்டுகள் இயக்க முடியாத நிலை வேறு உள்ளது. இந்நிலையில், விவசாயிகளின் வலிகளை, வேதனைகளை கொஞ்சம்கூட புரியாமல் இன்றைய அரசு ஒரு வெற்று ஏமாற்று அறிவிப்பை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.
விவசாயிகள் வாழ்வாதாரம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட விஷயமான இதன் தீவிரத்தை உணர்ந்து, மேட்டூர் அணையில் இருந்து நீர் திறந்து கடைமடை வரை சென்றடைவதற்கான அனைத்து நடவடிக்கைகளையும் மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என இந்த அரசை வலியுறுத்துகிறோம்” என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.
