Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the state budget for the year 2026–27 today, Friday. Before presenting the budget, he delivered a speech. The state government is following a development strategy that balances welfare schemes with investments in infrastructure and long-term economic transformation. The aim of this ban is to prevent the negative impact of rising mobile phone use on children. Under the IISc, a robotics and artificial intelligence park will be established in collaboration with ISRO and Kionix companies, called the Bangalore Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Hub. This will be set up at the beginning of the 2025–26 financial year.
Karnataka's GST revenue was growing at a healthy rate of about 10% every month. However, after the restructuring of GST tax rates, this growth rate sharply declined to 4%. The changes in mobile tax rates for minors have caused a significant revenue loss for the Karnataka government. In the current financial year (2025-26), revenue is expected to decrease by approximately Rs. 10,000 crore. In the next financial year (2026-27), the revenue shortfall is expected to be around Rs. 15,000 crore.
It is estimated that the Karnataka government will lose about Rs. 25,000 crore in revenue in just two years. The central government or the GST council may have reduced or changed the tax rates on certain items. Since Karnataka is a major consumption state, these tax changes have directly reduced the funds coming to the state government.
