Today (15.06.2026), at the Secretariat of the Government of Tamil Nadu, a key review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay regarding the schemes and activities of the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights. In this meeting, extensive discussions were held on various social welfare organizations, integrated child development services, and child welfare-related schemes. In a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government after the meeting, it was announced that the “Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme” will be expanded on September 17, the birthday of Thanthai Periyar, to include students studying in classes 6 to 8.
Furthermore, detailed discussions were held on the activities of the homes, various schemes, social laws, nutrition centers, and child centers being implemented for the welfare of children, women, transgender persons, and senior citizens through the Social Welfare Department, the Integrated Child Development Services, and the Department of Child Welfare and Special Services functioning under the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights. Discussions were also held on the department-specific schemes that can be implemented as stated in the “Victory Tamil Nadu” vision document, and on the financial allocations required for them.
In addition, the activities of the One Stop Centre for women, adoption centers, helpline numbers operated for women, children, and senior citizens, the breakfast and midday meal scheme for children, and the activities of Anganwadi centers were explained in detail.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister instructed that the projects implemented by the department should be delivered without hindrance and swiftly to the relevant beneficiaries, namely children, women, transgender persons, and senior citizens, and that awareness should be created among children about their safety and to prevent them from falling into drug addiction, and that necessary measures should be taken to rescue children who have fallen prey to such habits and provide them with appropriate rehabilitation.
