I did not go to the constituency just for the election. Even though I faced defeat, for the past five years, I have been with the people in the constituency as one of them, saying, "I am from Rayapuram, and I am here for Rayapuram." ராயபுரம் மக்கள் உங்களுக்கு எதற்காக வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும்?
“ராயபுரம் தொகுதியில் ஐந்து முறை எம்.எல்.ஏ-வாக இருந்த சமயத்தில் தொகுதியின் வளர்ச்சியை உறுதிசெய்தவன் நான். அ.தி.மு.க ஆட்சியில் கொண்டுவந்த போஜராஜன் மேம்பாலத்தை ஸ்டிக்கர் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டது தி.மு.க. கிழக்கு கல்லறை சாலை, மூலக்கொத்தளம் குடியிருப்பு இவையெல்லாம் நான் கொண்டுவந்தவைதான்.

“அப்படி ஒரு போலியான பிம்பத்தைக் கட்டமைக்கப் பார்க்கிறார்கள். ஆனால், தொகுதியில் இருக்கும் ஒட்டுமொத்த இஸ்லாமிய மக்களுமே வெளிப்படையாகவே எனக்கு ஆதரவு தெரிவிப்பதைச் செல்லும் இடங்களிலெல்லாம் கண்கூடாகப் பார்க்க முடிகிறது. ராயபுரத்தின், அதிலும் இஸ்லாமியர்களின் செல்லப்பிள்ளை நான். என்மீது சாதி, மதச் சாயம் பூச நினைக்கும் அனைவரின் முகத்திலும் ராயபுரம் சிறுபான்மையின மக்கள் கரியைப் பூசுவதை அனைவரும் பார்க்கத்தான் போகிறார்கள்.”
இந்த முறை உங்களுக்கு வெற்றி வாய்ப்பு எப்படி இருக்கிறது?
“இது எனது சொந்தத் தொகுதி. இங்கே இருக்கும் மக்கள் அனைவரும் என் சொந்த பந்தங்கள். எதிர்பாராதவிதமாக, கடந்த தேர்தலில் நான் தோல்வியைத் தழுவியிருந்தாலும், என்னைவிட என் ராயபுரம் மக்களே ‘உங்களைப் போய் தோக்கடிச்சுட்டோமே…’ என்று அதிக வருத்தமடைந்தார்கள். தேர்தலுக்காக மட்டுமே நான் தொகுதிக்குச் செல்லவில்லை. தோல்வியே அடைந்திருந்தாலும் கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளும், `ராயபுரத்தால் நான், ராயபுரத்துக்காகவே நான்…’ என்று தொகுதியில் மக்களுடன் மக்களாகவே இருந்திருக்கிறேன். கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளில் அவர்கள் பல துயரங்களைப் பார்த்துவிட்டார்கள். இனி ஒருபோதும் ராயபுரத்தில், வேறு யாருக்கும் வாய்ப்புகள் இல்லை என்பது தெளிவாகத் தெரிகிறது. கூடவே, மக்கள் வரவேற்பைப் பார்க்கும்போது எதிர் வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு டெபாசிட் கிடைப்பதே சந்தேகம்தான்” என்கிறார் குதூகலத்துடன்!
