Approximately 600 tons of waste are collected daily from the 60 wards under the Tiruppur Municipal Corporation. A private company named Srinivasa Waste Management has been contracted to collect the waste. The company was dumping all the waste collected from Tiruppur city, without segregation, at an abandoned lime quarry in the village of Muthalipalayam on the outskirts of Tiruppur. When the public refused to disperse, the police attempted to arrest them. This led to a severe scuffle between women and female police officers. Minor injuries occurred on both sides. During the protest, a woman participant wielded a slipper, and the police pushed her away and removed her. Livestock farmers who arrived with cattle tried to tie the animals to a truck that had come to dump garbage, but the police stopped them. Subsequently, the police arrested more than 100 people in groups and detained them in a private hall. Following this, three people from each side were reported injured. They have been admitted and are receiving treatment at Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital. Among those involved in the protest, 14 people attacked the police, prevented them from working, and were charged under 10 sections including the Prevention of Violence Against Women Act, the Prevention of Atrocities Act, and unlawful assembly, with 9 of them arrested.
