India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing major economies over the past 12 years, Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya has said.
In an article written for an English newspaper, he said that the reforms implemented over the past decade have transformed India’s employment landscape.
In it, he noted that India, which was among the five fragile economies in 2013, has now emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past 12 years, driven by empowerment, good governance, inclusive growth, and the potential of youth, India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing major economies. The minister noted that the role of the country’s youth has held a significant place in this transformation.
By providing direct financial assistance to workers and encouraging employers to create additional jobs, the Modi government's visionary initiatives such as 'Make in India', 'Digital India', 'Startup India', 'Skill India', 'Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana' and the 'National Career Service portal' have expanded opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and skill development, and also promote industrial growth and economic prosperity, Mandaviya noted.
He said that the country’s employment elasticity was 1.11 during the period between 2017-18 and 2023-24, indicating that employment has increased alongside economic growth.
He further stated that EPF payroll data indicate that more than 8 crore jobs were created in the formal sector between 2017 and 2025.
India has further strengthened its position on the global stage as a leader in global trade, digital public infrastructure, and as the first responder in international crises.
As India moves forward as a developed nation, Mandaviya has noted that employees and employers will continue to act as the twin engines of growth, prosperity, and opportunity.
