Chief Minister Joseph Vijay said that the Tamil Nadu government will take all necessary steps to expedite the implementation of the state-of-the-art shipbuilding project to be set up in Thoothukudi at a cost of Rs. 38,000 crore.
Senior officials from South Korea’s HD Hyundai, the company implementing this project, led by Young Hoon Kwan, Director of the company’s Global Business Division, met Chief Minister Vijay and held discussions at the Secretariat.
According to a press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government in this regard: The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a state-of-the-art shipbuilding complex in Thoothukudi.
Regarding the operational stages of the large shipbuilding yard project planned here, senior officials of this company held discussions with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
About Rs. 38,000 crore is proposed to be invested in this new shipbuilding project that is set to come up in India. Through this project, around 15,000 direct jobs will be created. In addition, many more employment opportunities and economic growth will be generated in the state through ancillary industries and the local supply chain.
For this project, a company called the National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Corporation was formed between SIPCOT and the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority.
This corporation has received policy-level approval from the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, for establishing this shipbuilding complex.
During this meeting, senior officials of the corporation briefed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in detail about the progress of the project. They also expressed the corporation’s strong interest in implementing this project in Thoothukudi.
At that time, Chief Minister Vijay said that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure the swift implementation of this project, which is important for Tamil Nadu’s development, in Thoothukudi, and that full administrative support and coordinated cooperation would be provided at every stage of the project.
It was further stated that all efforts would be made to launch the shipbuilding yard of HD Hyundai soon.
During the event, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S. Keerthana, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department S.
