Trinamool senior leader Kalyan Banerjee said on Saturday (June 13) that he has not joined the Congress party.
Voices were raised within the party against Mamata Banerjee’s decision in the appointment of the Legislative Assembly Trinamool Congress group leader (Leader of the Opposition), deputy leader, and chief whip. As a result, the party split into two factions.
Following the Legislative Assembly, the Trinamool Congress has also split into two factions in the Lok Sabha. Of the party’s 28 MPs, 20 MPs had submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday (June 8), stating that they support the BJP-led NDA alliance. Following this, three Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MPs resigned and announced that they were also leaving the party.
As a result, the party has also split in the Rajya Sabha, dividing into two factions: Mamata-supporting MPs and dissident MPs. In this situation, reports spread that the Trinamool party and the Congress were going to join hands.
Regarding this, senior Trinamool leader Kalyan Banerjee said:
We did not join the Congress.
Let them do whatever they want (dissatisfied MLAs, MPs). They will have to live under the protection of the BJP. This is all a conspiracy. They are citing the development of their constituencies as the reason for this. But if they cannot even go to their constituencies, then what work will they do?
Democracy has ended in West Bengal. What progress has there been in the past month? The BJP is harassing us, the police are harassing us. No opposition party in West Bengal has ever faced the kind of problems we are facing. He said that the party would not accept the 19 MPs who are going to the BJP.
Earlier, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had denied reports that the Trinamool Congress and the Congress were joining together, calling the news a rumor.
