On 11.06.2026, we published a report titled "Bus stop turned into an open bar; people in fear... Will the government take action?!" about a liquor shop operating right next to the bus stop in the market area of Koorainadu in Mayiladuthurai district, causing people to wait for buses with great fear and no place to sit, forcing them to stand at a distance from the stop and board the bus with aching feet, the situation of working women who wait for buses in fear at night, and the fights and accidents among drunkards.
In response to that news, action has been taken at the bus stop in that area, which until yesterday had no lighting, by installing a bright electric light, round-the-clock police protection, and warning signs.
When the people in that area saw this, they spoke to us again and said, "All these days, we were standing at this bus stop in fear, afraid to board the bus. Only today did we stand and get on the bus without any fear.
For all of us who used to be scared to even stand here and board the bus, now we feel relieved and confident because the police are here. Just because the police are here, those who came to drink today didn’t create any trouble.
Even if they do, we’re not afraid because we know the police will see it. Now they come on their own, buy it, drink, and leave. Even if they cause any trouble, the police talk to them and sort it out. Now there’s no problem in this place either.
In all these years, we had never seen this place like this. Today, the police coming and standing here, putting up banners, everything felt very new and surprising to us. For the first time today, we saw that no one was drinking at that bus stop.
We boarded the bus without fear. Many thanks to Vikatan for publishing the news for us, and to the government for taking action.
But for us, this is only a token solution. They should quickly move this wine shop to another location, fix that bus stop too, and most importantly install cameras there so we can board the bus safely. That would be the permanent solution for us.
Until all this is done, please keep giving us police protection like this. Don’t just provide security for one day whenever the news comes out; keep it going continuously,” they said.
A temporary solution has now been found for the people’s long-standing problem. The only demand of the local residents is that the government should act swiftly and take department-level measures to permanently resolve the issue by relocating the liquor shop to another place and making the bus stop fully usable for the public.
Regarding this, Mayiladuthurai District Deputy Superintendent Balaji said, "Through Vikatan's report, we have installed streetlights and warning boards at that place. Arrangements have also been made for police personnel to monitor the area from time to time. A few arrangements have also been made for properly parking two-wheelers at that spot. We have also recommended to the District Collector that the liquor shop be permanently closed," he said.

அச்செய்தியின் எதிரொலியாக நேற்று அப்பகுதியில் விளக்கின்றி இருந்த பேருந்து நிறுத்தத்திற்கு ஒளிரும் மின்விளக்கு, முழு நேர போலீஸ் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் எச்சரிக்கை பதாகைகள் வைத்து நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது
இதைத்தபார்த்த அப்பகுதி மக்கள் மீண்டும் நம்மிடையே பேசியபோது, “இவ்ளோ நாளா இந்த பஸ் ஸ்டாப்ல பயந்து பயந்து பஸ் ஏற நின்னுட்டு இருந்தோம். இன்னைக்கி தான் எந்த பயமும் இல்லாமா நின்னு பஸ் ஏறினோம்.

அப்படியே பண்ணாலும் போலீஸ் பாத்துப்பாங்கன்னு பயமில்லாம இருக்கோம். இப்ப அவங்க பாட்டுக்கு வராங்க வாங்குறாங்க குடிச்சிட்டு போறாங்க. அப்படியே எதாவது பிரச்சனை பண்ணாலும் போலீஸ் அவங்கள பாத்து பேசி சரி பண்ணிடுறாங்க. இப்பதான் இந்த இடத்துலையும் எந்த பிரச்சனையும் இல்ல.
இத்தன வருசத்துல எப்பையுமே இந்த இடம் இப்படி இருந்து பாத்தது இல்ல. இன்னைக்கி போலீஸ் வந்து நிக்கிறது, பேனர் வச்சது எல்லாமே எங்களுக்கு ரொம்பவே புதுசாவும் ஆச்சிரியமாவும் இருந்துச்சி. இன்னைக்கிதான் முதன் முறையா அந்த பஸ் ஸ்டாப்ல ஆளு யாரும் குடிக்காம இருக்கறதையே பாத்தோம்.
பயமில்லாம பஸ்ஸும் ஏறுனோம். எங்களுக்காக செய்தி வெளியிட்ட விகடனுக்கும், நடவடிக்கை எடுத்த அரசுக்கும் ரொம்ப நன்றி.
ஆனா,எங்களுக்கு இது எங்களுக்கான கண்துடைப்புக்கான தீர்வாதான் இருக்கு. இந்த ஒயின் ஷாப்ப வேற எடத்துக்கு சீக்கிரம் மாத்தி, அந்த பஸ்ஸ்டாப்பையும் சரிப் பண்ணி முக்கியமா கேமரா வசதியோட அங்கையே வையிட் பண்ணி பஸ் ஏறுற மாதிரி செஞ்சிக்கொடுக்கனும் . இதுதான் எங்களுக்கான நிரந்தர தீர்வாஇருக்கும்.

மக்களின் நீண்டநாள் பிரச்சைக்கு தற்காலிக தீர்வுதான் தற்பொழுது கிடைத்துள்ளது. அரசு விரைந்து துறைச்சாரந்த நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொண்டு நிரந்தர தீர்வாக மதுபானக்கடையை வேறு இடத்திற்கு மாற்றி, பேருந்து நிறுத்தத்தை முழுமையாக மக்கள் பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் மாற்றி தர வேண்டும் என்பதே அப்பகுதி மக்களின் ஒரே கோரிக்கையாக உள்ளது.
இதுக்குறித்து மயிலாடுதுறை மாவட்ட துணைக் கண்காணிப்பாளர் பாலாஜி கூறுகையில், “விகடன் செய்தியின் வாயிலாக அவ்விடத்தில் மின்விளக்குகள் மற்றும் எச்சரிக்கை பலகைகள் வைத்துள்ளோம். மேலும் அவ்விடத்தை அவ்வபோது காவலர்கள் கண்காணிக்கவும் ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அவ்விடத்தில் இருசக்கர வாகனங்களை முறையாக நிறுத்துவதற்கும் ஒரு சில ஏற்பாடுகளும் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. மதுபானக் கடையை நிரந்நரமாக மூடுவது குறித்து மாவட்ட ஆட்சியருக்கும் பரிந்துரை செய்துள்ளோம்” என்று கூறினார்.
