Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has filed a petition in the Chennai Principal Sessions Court seeking permission to withdraw the report submitted to close the bribery case against former minister Vaithilingam.
During the AIADMK regime from 2011 to 2016, Vaithilingam, who was then the Minister for Housing, was accused in a complaint filed by the Arappor Iyakkam with the anti-corruption department in 2022 of having received a bribe of Rs. 28 crore to grant planning approval for the Shriram Properties apartment building in Perungalathur, Chennai.
After a delay of two years, based on this complaint, the Anti-Corruption Department registered a case in September 2024. Based on this case, the Enforcement Directorate also registered a case. This case was pending in the Chennai Sessions Court.
In this situation, former minister Vaithilingam joined the DMK last January. Following this, since there was not enough evidence for the allegations against Vaithilingam, a report was filed on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Department in the previous regime, closing the case.
In protest against this report, petitions had been filed on behalf of the Arappor Iyakkam and the Enforcement Department.
With a change in government in Tamil Nadu, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department has now filed a petition stating that it intends to reinvestigate the case against former minister Vaithilingam.
All these cases came up for hearing before Chennai Principal Sessions Court Judge S. Karthikeyan.
At that time, the Enforcement Directorate stated that a petition had been filed objecting to closing the case. On Vaithealingam’s side, it was stated that this case has no connection whatsoever with the Enforcement Directorate, and that the Enforcement Directorate has no basis to file an objection petition.
On behalf of the Arappor Iyakkam, it was stated that they had filed a petition seeking to be provided with the report submitted by the Anti-Corruption Department stating that the case was being closed.
Following this, the judge said that it would first be examined whether the Enforcement Directorate’s petition was maintainable or not, and adjourned the hearing on all the petitions to June 29.

அப்போது, வழக்கை முடித்து வைக்க எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்து மனு தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அமலாக்கத் துறை சார்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதற்கு வைத்திலிங்கம் தரப்பில், இந்த வழக்கிற்கும் அமலாக்கத் துறைக்கும் எந்த சம்பந்தமும் இல்லை என்றும், எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்து மனு தாக்கல் செய்ய அமலாக்கத் துறைக்கு எந்த முகாந்திரமும் இல்லை என்றும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
வழக்கு முடித்து வைப்பதாக லஞ்ச ஒழிப்புத் துறை தாக்கல் செய்த அறிக்கையை தங்களுக்கு வழங்க வேண்டுமென மனு தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளதாக அறப்போர் இயக்கம் சார்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
இதனையடுத்து, அமலாக்கத் துறையின் மனு விசாரணைக்கு உகந்ததா, இல்லையா என்பது குறித்து முதலில் ஆய்வு செய்யப்படும் என தெரிவித்த நீதிபதி, அனைத்து மனுக்களின் மீதான விசாரணையை ஜூன் மாதம் 29-ம் தேதிக்கு ஒத்திவைத்தார்.
