The sudden split in the Trinamool Congress party led by Mamata Banerjee could create an opportunity for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament, according to talk circulating in Delhi.
As a result, Delhi political circles say the central government is seriously considering bringing back the delimitation bill, which was defeated last April, in the monsoon session beginning in July.

Following this sudden support, some Delhi sources say that talks are also under way to secure conditional support from the DMK, which was defeated in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election. These talks are gaining importance as the DMK has distanced itself from its old alliance partner, the Congress. If the DMK’s support is also secured, the NDA alliance will move closer to its goal of a two-thirds majority. However, political observers believe the chances of that are very slim.
Regarding this, a senior BJP leader said, "The government is preparing to introduce several bills in the monsoon session. These include the constitutional amendment bill to implement 33% women’s reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and major initiatives such as 'One Nation, One Election.' These bills will be introduced once the required majority is within reach," he said.
How do the Lok Sabha numbers change?
In the 543-member Lok Sabha, a two-thirds majority requires the support of 362 MPs.
Since the three constituencies of Basirhat, Shillong, and Naugong are currently vacant, a majority based on the House’s present strength requires 360 votes.
The NDA alliance currently has the support of 293 MPs.
If the support of 20 disgruntled Trinamool MPs is added, this number will rise to 313.
Moreover, there are even reports that efforts are underway to create a split among the nine MPs of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and secure the support of six MPs.
