Mahendran (32) was from Uppukara Street in Thirupanandal near Kumbakonam. He ran a flower shop and was serving as the district joint secretary of the business wing in the Thanjavur East district of the AIADMK.
He is survived by his wife, Muneeswari (32), and a two-year-old daughter named Nithyasree. In this situation, Mahendran, who had been distressed over the internal party issues and split within the AIADMK, set himself on fire after pouring petrol on his body, expressing the view that the AIADMK should unite, and ended his life.
Earlier, Mahendran had posted a video of himself speaking on social media. In it, he said, ''When I look at the problems happening in the party, ordinary workers like me are deeply distressed. The AIADMK should once again form the government under Edappadi Palaniswami's leadership.
At least after my death, party workers and office-bearers should come together. I would like to express my gratitude to the office-bearers who traveled with me in politics.
"At least after my death, all AIADMK workers should come together. If Edappadi Palaniswami pays tribute to my body, my soul will find peace. If there is such a thing as the next birth, I wish to be born again as a humble AIADMK worker," he said emotionally. Mahendran’s suicide has shocked AIADMK circles.
We have lost a true loyalist; from now on, make way for the younger generation, said AIADMK’s Raj Sathyan, and that has stirred up a buzz within the party.
Speaking to those familiar with the matter, we were told, ''Mahendran was a staunch AIADMK worker. A devoted loyalist of Edappadi Palaniswami. He was someone who could actively participate in party activities. He would keep recording information related to the party’s interests.
He was distressed by the events taking place in the AIADMK after the assembly election. We never imagined that someone who kept talking and lamenting about this to party members and those close to him would decide to take his own life. We have now lost a true AIADMK cadre.
This has caused us great sorrow. Edappadi Palaniswami came in person to pay tribute to Mahendran’s body and offer his condolences. It has also been announced that, on behalf of the party, Rs. 30 lakh, on behalf of the East District unit, Rs. 25 lakh, and the child’s education expenses will be borne for Mahendran’s family.
“As Mahendran said, only if the AIADMK unites will his soul find peace,” they said.

கும்பகோணம் அருகே உள்ள திருப்பனந்தாள் உப்புக்கார தெருவைச் சேர்ந்தவர் மகேந்திரன்(32). பூக்கடை நடத்தி வந்த இவர் அதிமுக-வில் தஞ்சாவூர் கிழக்கு மாவட்டத்தில் வர்த்தக அணியின் மாவட்ட இணை செயலாளராகப் பொறுப்பில் இருந்தார்.
