Ten years after Pinarayi Vijayan's administration ended, Congress opposition leader V.D. Satheesan assumes office as the next Chief Minister of Kerala. Satheesan was born on May 31, 1964, in Nettur, Ernakulam district, to forest officer Vatcheri Damodaran Menon and Vilasini Amma. After completing his school education, he earned a bachelor's degree from Devara Sacred Heart College and a master's degree from Rajagiri College. Subsequently, he obtained an LLB from Kerala Law College and an LLM from Government Law College. He worked as an advocate in the Kerala High Court for about 10 years. V.D. Satheesan is the name by which Vatcheri Damodaran Satheesan is commonly known.
V.T. Sadheesan has a wife named Lakshmi Priya and a daughter named Unni Maya. He began his political journey as a student leader in Ernakulam and was elected as an MLA from the Paravur constituency six times. He served effectively as the Leader of the Opposition in the previous government led by Pinarayi Vijayan. Now, at the age of 61, he is set to assume the position of Chief Minister of Kerala. V.T. In 1996, he was defeated by P. Raju of the CPM party in his first election. However, in 2001, he defeated P. Raju and recorded his first victory. He continued to win and in the 2026 election, he won by a margin of 20,600 votes, becoming an MLA for the sixth time. Over the past 30 years, he has become a people's representative who has had direct contact with the voters of the Paravur constituency. V. D. Satheesan has also served as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and the Estimates Committee of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He has held positions as the Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, and served as the Deputy Leader of the Kerala State Congress for five years.
In 2016, Satheesan served as the 'Chief Whip' of the Congress Legislative Party in the Umman Chandy government. During Umman Chandy's tenure as Leader of the Opposition from 2006 to 2011, he proposed 33 urgent resolutions in the assembly, setting a record in the history of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The year 2021 marked a major turning point in Satheesan's political career. After the Congress suffered defeat in the assembly elections, the Delhi leadership sidelined many senior leaders and appointed Satheesan as the Leader of the Opposition. Becoming a strong voice of the opposition in the assembly, he sharply criticized the Pinarayi government on many issues.
Under his leadership, the Congress alliance achieved a record by winning 18 out of 20 seats in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Although K.C. Venugopal and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala were contenders for the Chief Minister position, the Delhi high command decided to appoint V.D. Satheesan, who has the support of the party workers, as the Chief Minister of Kerala. V.D. Satheesan is set to take office as Kerala Chief Minister this coming Monday.

கேரள சட்டமன்றத்தின் பொதுக் கணக்குக் குழு மற்றும் மதிப்பீட்டுக் குழுவின் தலைவராகவும் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார். தமிழக காங்கிரஸ் பொறுப்பாளராக அகில இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் கமிட்டியின் செயலாளராகவும், ஐந்து ஆண்டுகள் கேரள மாநில துணைத் தலைவராகவும் பதவி வகித்தார். 2016-ல் உம்மன் சாண்டி அரசில் காங்கிரஸ் சட்டமன்றக் கட்சியின் ‘சீஃப் விப்’ ஆகவும் இருந்தார். 2006 முதல் 2011 வரையிலான உம்மன் சாண்டியின் எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவர் காலத்தில், சட்டமன்றத்தில் 33 அவசர தீர்மானங்களை முன்மொழிந்து கேரள சட்டமன்ற வரலாற்றிலேயே சாதனையை ஏற்படுத்தினார். சதீசனின் அரசியல் வாழ்வில் 2021-ம் ஆண்டு மிகப்பெரிய திருப்பத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலில் காங்கிரஸ் அடைந்த தோல்விக்குப் பிறகு, பல மூத்த தலைவர்களைப் பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளிவிட்டு சதீசனை எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவராக நியமித்தது டெல்லி தலைமை. சட்டசபையில் எதிர்க்கட்சியின் வலுவான குரலாக மாறிய அவர், பினராயி அரசைப் பல விஷயங்களில் கடுமையாக விமர்சித்தார். அவரது தலைமையில் 2024 நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் 20-ல் 18 இடங்களை வென்று காங்கிரஸ் கூட்டணி சாதனை படைத்தது. இப்போது முதல்வர் பதவிக்காக கே.சி.வேணுகோபால், முன்னாள் எதிர்கட்சி தலைவர் ரமேஷ் சென்னிதலா ஆகியோர் போட்டியில் இருந்தாலும் தொண்டர்களின் உணர்வில் கலந்த வி.டி.சதீசனை கேரள முதல்வர் பதவியில் அமரவைக்க முடிவெடுத்தது டெல்லி ஹை கமான்ட். வரும் திங்கள்கிழமை வி.டி.சதீசன் கேரள முதல்வராக பதவி ஏற்க உள்ளார்.
