A book against Chennai High Court judge G.R. Swaminathan, highlighting the Thiruparankundram issue, is announced to be sold at the 49th Chennai Book Fair. Naveen Prasad from Vellore has filed a case seeking a ban on the sale of this book, which is said to tarnish the judge's reputation. The petition states, "If this book is allowed to be sold at the book fair, it would amount to interference in the administration of justice... Therefore, this book should not be sold. Despite sending a petition to the government, no action has been taken."
A petition has been filed requesting the confiscation and ban on the sale of this book. The case came up for hearing before Chief Justice M.M. Srivastava and Justice G. Arulmurugan. At that time, the Additional Solicitor General of the Central Government, A.R.L. Sundaresan, said, "There are words that are defamatory. Action can be taken based on the existing documents." The Chief Justice then interjected, "Very offensive, defamatory words have been used. An investigation should have been conducted regarding the complaint filed about this. Should the court also order that?" the judges asked.
Questions were raised to the Tamil Nadu government. Justice G.R. Swaminathan asked, "What action has been taken regarding the complaint about this very serious matter? How was permission granted to sell this book at the exhibition? Furthermore, such activities should not be allowed at a government intellectual platform like the book exhibition." Chief Counsel P.S. Raman, appearing for the Tamil Nadu government, stated, "The book exhibition is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister tomorrow. The Chief Minister does not approve of such activities. The book exhibition is not organized by the government; it is conducted by publishers. It will be ensured that this book is not sold at the book exhibition."
He assured that the police action will be taken accordingly. Following this, the Chennai High Court judges took up the contempt of court case against the book publisher, Keelaikaatru Publications, on their own motion and ordered the publisher to respond within three weeks. Furthermore, the judges ordered the seizure of the book and instructed the police to ensure that the book is not sold, postponing the inquiry for three weeks.
