National Testing Agency data show that one in three students taking the NEET retest is from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, or Rajasthan.
With 22.7 lakh people having applied for the NEET exam, the test held on May 3 was announced to be cancelled due to allegations of question paper leakage, and the retest is scheduled to be held on June 21.
Out of the total 22 lakh candidates, 3.56 lakh are from Uttar Pradesh alone. That is 15.7 percent. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of students taking the NEET exam in the country. Next is Maharashtra, with 2.22 lakh candidates (9.8%). Rajasthan has 2.03 lakh candidates, which is 8.9 percent. So, overall, just from these three states, exactly 35 percent of the total candidates are taking the NEET exam.
Tamil Nadu is in 6th place with 1.42 lakh candidates. Ahead of it are Bihar (1.56 lakh) and Karnataka (1.45 lakh) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. From these six states alone, 55 percent of the students are taking the exam.
In the next positions are Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, and West Bengal.
Re-examination
Due to the question paper leak, arrangements for the NEET re-exam have been intensified. The National Testing Agency has taken measures such as sending question papers by helicopter and isolating those involved in preparing the question papers from outside contact.
On the other hand, it is noteworthy that the NEET exam fee has been refunded to students, and an additional 15 minutes has been allotted for students taking the re-exam.
