With the NEET retest for undergraduate medical courses scheduled to be held on Sunday (June 21), extensive security arrangements have been made at examination centers across the country. About 22.79 lakh students are expected to take part in this exam.
To ensure that no irregularities occur in the retest, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, carried out a mock drill of the NEET examination procedure at various centers across the country on Saturday.
23 lakh people took the NEET exam held on May 3 for undergraduate medical courses. Allegations arose that a model question paper containing the same questions as those in the NEET question paper had been leaked in Rajasthan in advance. In the initial investigation, it was found that this model question paper had spread across various states through WhatsApp and Telegram, and the NEET exam was canceled.
The CBI is conducting a thorough investigation into this issue, which caused great shock among students. So far, CBI officials have arrested 13 people from Maharashtra and Rajasthan in connection with this matter.
As a precautionary measure, the central government took action to impose a temporary ban on the Telegram app across the country until June 22.
Today’s retest: Following the cancellation of the NEET exam, the NEET retest is scheduled to be conducted nationwide on Sunday (June 21). Examination centers have been set up in 551 cities across the country and in 14 cities abroad. The NEET retest, which begins at 2 p.m., will end at 5:15 p.m. Only candidates with disabilities will be allowed to write until 6:20 p.m. Candidates will be permitted to enter the examination hall from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The entrance gate will be closed at 1:30 p.m. The NTA has stated that students arriving after that will not be allowed to take the exam.
A consultation meeting was held last Thursday, chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with participation from officials of the Education Ministry, state government officials, and others, regarding the preparations. At the meeting, officials were instructed to take the necessary steps to conduct the re-examination in a fair and transparent manner. Several states then assured that they would arrange free transportation facilities so that NEET candidates could reach the examination centers without any hindrance.
NMC directive: In an effort to prevent the practice of writing and handing out answer keys in NEET exam irregularities, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed that medical college students should not be given holidays on Saturdays and Sundays (June 21). Based on this, medical colleges across the country, including in Tamil Nadu, have declared Sunday as a working day for students as well.
Extensive security arrangements: To ensure that the re-examination is conducted without any disruptions, the NDA has made extensive security arrangements. More than 2 lakh people, including police personnel and district administrative officials, are to be deployed to monitor the NEET re-examination. In addition, 674 city coordinators and 6,669 observers are to be involved in monitoring the examination centers.
In an Indian Air Force aircraft... in order to prevent question paper leaks, the Indian Air Force has been deployed for the first time to distribute them to the states.
