Chief Minister Vijay announced a financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh each for the families of those who died in the ammonia leak incident at a shrimp processing company in Tiruvallur.
In a press release issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu regarding this, it was stated that in Tiruvallur district, Uthukottai taluk, near Periyapalayam in Kannigai Per village, an unexpected ammonia gas leak occurred today (21.06.2026) in the production unit of a private fish food export factory, affecting 64 people (60 women and 4 men) who were working there. Unfortunately, 2 women died in this accident, 15 people are under intensive observation at a government hospital, 23 people have been admitted to the intensive care unit at a private hospital, and 24 people have been admitted to a private hospital and are under observation.
I have ordered that an investigation into this accident be conducted under the leadership of the Director of the Department of Industrial Safety and Health, the Additional Director of the Department of Public Health, and the Member-Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and that the preliminary investigation report be submitted within 24 hours and the comprehensive investigation report within 3 days.
I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news that two women lost their lives in this incident. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the two women who died in this accident, and I have ordered that two lakh rupees each be provided from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. I have also ordered that arrangements be made at government expense to send their bodies to their home state and carry out the burial.
Furthermore, I have ordered that special treatment be provided to those who have been admitted to the hospital due to this accident. I have also instructed that appropriate compensation be provided under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme / the Workmen’s Compensation Act to the workers who died and were affected in this accident.
I have ordered this as well. In order to prevent such accidents in the future, I have instructed that immediate team inspections be carried out in hazardous industries.
I have instructed the Information Technology Minister, the Member of the Legislative Assembly, the District Monitoring Officer / Senior Indian Administrative Service Officer, and the District Collector to jointly inspect the site where this incident took place and to take appropriate further action, as well as provide the necessary assistance to the affected families. He stated this.

இச்சம்பவத்தில் இரு பெண்கள் உயிரிழந்தனர் என்ற துயரகரமான செய்தியை கேட்டு மிகவும் அதிர்ச்சியும் வேதனையும் அடைந்தேன். இவ்விபத்தில் உயிரிழந்த இரண்டு பெண்களின் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு எனது ஆழ்ந்த இரங்கலையும், ஆறுதலையும் தெரிவித்துக்கொள்வதோடு முதலமைச்சர் பொது நிவாரண நிதியிலிருந்து தலா இரண்டு இலட்சம் ரூபாய் வழங்க உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளேன். மேலும், அவர்களது உடலினை சொந்த மாநிலத்திற்கு அனுப்பி நல்லடக்கம் செய்வதற்கு அரசு செலவில் நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளவும் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளேன்.
மேலும், இவ்விபத்தில் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நபர்களுக்கு சிறப்பு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கவும் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளேன். இவ்விபத்தில் உயிரிழந்த மற்றும் பாதிப்படைந்த தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு, தொழிலாளர் மாநில ஈட்டுறுதி காப்பீட்டுத் (ESI) திட்டம் / வேலையாள் இழப்பீடு சட்டத்தின் கீழ் உரிய இழப்பீடு வழங்கிட நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளவும்

இச்சம்பவம் நடைபெற்ற இடத்திற்கு தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறை அமைச்சர், சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர், மாவட்ட கண்காணிப்பு அலுவலர் /மூத்த இந்திய ஆட்சிப்பணி அலுவலர், மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் ஆகியோர் இணைந்து நேரடியாக ஆய்வு செய்து தக்க மேல்நடவடிக்கையும், பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குடும்பத்தினருக்கு தேவைப்படும் உதவியினை செய்யுமாறும் அறிவுறுத்தியுள்ளேன். இவ்வாறு குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.
