In the recently concluded local body elections in Kerala, the BJP has captured the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, the state capital. During the election period, there were reports that Sreelakha, the former DGP and Kerala's first female IPS officer, was likely to be selected as the mayoral candidate for Thiruvananthapuram. Sreelakha contested and won as a councilor from the Sasthamangalam ward, but senior party member V.V. Rajesh was announced and elected as the mayoral candidate.
