Sirkazhi: Unopened Vehicle Parking Lot at New Bus Stand; People Struggling!
Last year, the Tamil Nadu government allocated Rs. 8 crore and 40 lakh for various renovation works at the new bus stand in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai district. Under this fund, several renovation works such as toilets, restaurants, and two-wheeler parking areas were carried out. In this context, even though the new building for two-wheeler parking was completed seven months ago, it remains unopened and is just a spectacle that many visitors question, "What is this?"
When speaking to the local people about this, they said, "They built a new one instead of the old stand. It has been six or seven months since it was completed, but it has not been opened yet. We don’t know when it will open. We are still parking our vehicles here today. We were just thinking that they would open it by tomorrow. But even after so many months, the tender hasn’t been issued yet. There's no rush either. Earlier, there used to be a bus stand at the front where vehicles would park. We would come, park the vehicle at the stand, and then quickly board the bus. But now, we are standing at places where vehicles break down. We are worried and anxious that the vehicle might not be found. In an emergency, without knowing where to stand, we just stop at one side of the bus stand. Some vehicles that stop like this sometimes disappear. Even now, look at how many vehicles are standing here. There is a private two-wheeler stand right next to this place. If there was no stand here, then… Nowadays, everyone goes and stands there. If it’s a private stand, you have to pay, even here. That’s why it’s a bit difficult. Since vehicles are parked both there and here without proper space, it’s very hard for buses to come and go, and traffic is affected. Finding a place to park is a big problem. Sometimes buses leave because they can’t find a spot. If they build a new stand for us, it would be very helpful. We will also park our old vehicles at the new stand and come and go without fear or hesitation. There won’t be a need to wander around looking for parking spots. Many groups of people who saw it said, "Organize a big protest, we will also cooperate." There is also a private two-wheeler parking area adjacent to the new bus station. If the two-wheeler parking lot built by the municipality is opened, the profit for those who run private two-wheeler parking lots will decrease. Due to the pressure from private companies on the municipality, the municipality is delaying the opening, as discussed by many groups of people. According to the people's wishes, we had planned to hold a sit-in protest on 22.12.2025. The municipal commissioner, upon learning this information, contacted me and said it would be opened within ten more days.
People are parking two-wheelers in unsafe conditions at various places because the designated two-wheeler parking area has not been opened. Therefore, the two-wheeler parking area should be made available for use quickly. Otherwise, as planned, our blockade protest will continue," he said. When contacted regarding this, Sirkazhi Municipality Commissioner Manjula said, "According to the price of the new Public Works Department (PWD) building, the tender was awarded. However, the bidders said the price is too high. Therefore, we have sent it to the committee."
He concluded by saying, "If the committee reduces the price and takes a loan, the two-wheeler parking lot will be operational within two weeks," and ended the call. Without knowing where to park and without any guarantee of security, two-wheelers have been parked here and there. The only demand of the local people is to understand the importance of the need for that place and to quickly make the two-wheeler parking lot available for public use.

மயிலாடுதுறை மாவட்டம், சீர்காழி புதிய பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் பல்வேறு சீரமைப்பு பணிகளுக்காக தமிழக அரசு கடந்த ஆண்டு ரூ.8கோடியே 40லட்சம் ஒதுக்கீடு செய்தது. இந்த நிதியின் கீழ் கழிவறைகள், உணவகங்கள், இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துமிடம் போன்ற பல்வேறு சீரமைப்பு பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டன.
இந்த நிலையில் இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துவதற்கான புதிய கட்டடம் கட்டி முடித்து 7 மாதங்கள் ஆன நிலையிலும் இன்றும் திறக்கப்படாமல் பார்ப்போர் பலரும் என்ன இது? என்று கேட்கும் அளவில் காட்சிப் பொருளாகவே இருக்கிறது.
இது குறித்து அப்பகுதி மக்களிடையே பேசியபோது, “பழைய ஸ்டாண்டுக்கு பதிலா புதுசா கட்டுனாங்க. கட்டி முடிச்சும் ஆறு ஏழு மாசம் ஆகிடுச்சு. ஆனா, திறந்த பாடுதான் இல்ல. எப்ப தெறப்பாங்கன்னு தெரியல. நாங்களும் இன்னைக்கி தெறந்துடுவாங்க. நாளைக்கி தெறந்துடுவாங்கன்னு தான் நெனச்சிட்டு இருந்தோம்.

அவசரத்துல எங்க நிப்பாட்டுறதுன்னு தெரியாம பஸ் ஸ்டாண்ட்லே ஒரு ஓரமா நிறுத்திட்டு போயிடுறோம். இப்படி நிறுத்திட்டு போற வண்டிலா சிலது காணாவும் போயிடுது. இப்ப கூட பாருங்க இங்க எவ்ளோ வண்டி நிக்குதுன்னு. இங்க பக்கத்துல தனியார் டூ விலர் ஸ்டாண்ட்லாம் இருக்கு. இங்க ஸ்டாண்ட் இல்லன்னு, இப்பெல்லாம் எல்லாரும் அங்க தான் போயி நிப்பாட்டுறாங்களே.
தனியார் ஸ்டாண்ட்ன்னா சொல்லவா வேணும் இங்க விட காசும் கூட தான். அதனால கொஞ்சம் கஷ்டமா தான் இருக்கு.
இடம் கெடைக்காம வண்டிய அங்கையும், இங்கையும் நிறுத்துறதுனால, பஸ் எல்லாம் போயிட்டு வரவும் ரொம்ப சிரமமா இருக்கு, போக்குவரத்தும் பாதிக்குது. இடம் தேடி நிறுத்துறதே பெரும் பாடுதான். இப்படி இடத்த தேடுறதுல பஸ்ஸ விட்ட கதலாமும் உண்டு. எங்களுக்கு கட்டுன புது ஸ்டாண்ட்ட தொறந்து கொடுத்தா ரொம்ப உதவியா இருக்கும்.
நாங்களும் பழைய மாறி வண்டிய ஸ்டாண்ட்ல போட்டுட்டு வண்டி காணப்போயிடுன்ற பயம்லா இல்லாமா தைரியமா போயிட்டு வருவோம். வண்டி போடுறதுக்கும் இடத்த தேடி அங்க இங்கன்னு அலைய வேண்டிய அவசியமும் இருக்காது. சீக்கிரம் அந்த ஸ்டாண்ட்ட பயன்பாட்டுக்கு கொண்டுட்டு வாங்க! எங்க வண்டியோட பாதுகாப்ப உறுதிப்படுத்துங்க!” என்றனர்.
இது குறித்து சமூக ஆர்வலர் ஜெக.சண்முகம் கூறுகையில், “சீர்காழி புதிய பேருந்து நிலையம் சீரமைப்புக்கு ஒதுக்கிய எஞ்சிய தொகையில் உணவகமும், இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துமிடம் ஒன்றும் கட்டப்பட்டது. இவை இரண்டும் கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டு 7 முதல் 8 மாதங்கள் ஆன நிலையிலும் திறக்கப்படாமலே உள்ளது.
அக்ஸ்செப்ட் ( தமிழ்நாடு ஊழல் தடுப்பு, நுகர்வோர் நலன் சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதுகாப்பு அமைப்பு) அமைப்பு மூலம் வட்டாட்சியர் திறக்கக் கோரி மனு ஒன்று அளித்த நிலையிலும், பதில் ஒன்றும் வரவில்லை. அக்ஸ்செப்ட் அமைப்பின் மூலமாகவே பயன்பாட்டுக்கு வராத இரு சக்கர வாகன நிறுத்தும் இடத்திலிருந்தே பேட்டி ஒன்றைக் கொடுத்து, அதனை என்னுடைய முகநூல் பக்கத்தில் வெளியிட்டேன்.
அதனைப் பார்த்த பல தரப்பு மக்களும் பெரிய போராட்டம் ஒன்றை முன்னெடுங்கள் நாங்களும் ஒத்துழைக்கிறோம் என்றனர். புதிய பேருந்து நிலையத்தை ஒட்டியவாறு வேறு சில தனியார் இரு சக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துமிடமும் உள்ளது.
நகராட்சியின் மூலம் கட்டப்பட்ட இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்தம் திறந்துவிட்டால், தனியார் இருசக்கர வாகன நிறுத்தம் வைத்திருப்போருக்கு லாபம் குறைந்துவிடும் என்பதால் தனியார் நிறுவனங்கள் நகராட்சிக்கு கொடுக்கும் அழுத்தத்தினால், நகராட்சி திறப்பதில் காலதாமதம் செய்கிறது என்பது பல தரப்பு மக்களால் பேசப்பட்டு வருகிறது. மக்களின் விருப்பத்திற்கிணங்க, 22.12.2025 முற்றுகை போராட்டம் நடத்த திட்டமிட்டிருந்தோம்.
தகவல் அறிந்த நகராட்சி ஆணையர் என்னைத் தொடர்புக் கொண்டு இன்னும் பத்து நாட்களுக்குள் திறந்து விடுவதாக கூறினார். இரு சக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துவதற்கான இடம் திறக்கப்படாமல் மக்கள் பல்வேறு இடங்களில் பாதுகாப்பற்ற சூழ்நிலையில் இருசக்கர வாகனங்களை நிறுத்தி செல்கின்றன. எனவே இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்தும் இடத்தை விரைவாக பயன்பாட்டுக்கு கொண்டு வரவேண்டும். இல்லையெனில், திட்டமிட்டபடி எங்களின் முற்றுகை போராட்டம் தொடரும்” என்றார்.
இது குறித்து சீர்காழி நகராட்சி ஆணையர் மஞ்சுளாவைத் தொடர்பு கொண்டு பேசியபோது, “பொதுப்பணித்துறையின்(PWD) புதிய கட்டடத்தின் விலையின் படி, ஏலமானது விடப்பட்டது. ஆனால், ஏலம் எடுப்பவர்களோ இந்த விலை அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது என்றார்கள்.
அதனால், இதனை கமிட்டிக்கு அனுப்பி இருக்கிறோம். கமிட்டி விலை குறைத்து ஏலம் எடுத்துவிட்டால் இன்னும் இரண்டு வாரங்களில் இருசக்கர வாகனம் நிறுத்துமிடம் பயன்பாட்டுக்கு வந்துவிடும்” என முடித்துக்கொண்டு அழைப்பைத் துண்டித்தார்.
எங்கு நிறுத்துவது என்று அறியாமல் பாதுகாப்பிற்கு உத்தரவாதம் இல்லா நிலையில், இரு சக்கர வாகனங்கள் அங்கொன்றும் இங்கொன்றுமாக நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
பொதுமக்களுக்கு அவ்விடத்தின் தேவையின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அறிந்து, விரைந்து இருசக்கர வாகன நிறுத்துமிடத்தை மக்களின் பயன்பாட்டுக்கு கொண்டுவர வேண்டும் என்பதே அப்பகுதி மக்களின் ஒரே கோரிக்கையாக உள்ளது.
