Iran has closed the Hormuz Strait due to the war between the US and Israel in the Middle East. Since 20% of the world's oil trade passes through this strait, the supply of crude oil and natural gas to many countries, including India, has been disrupted. In this situation, to avoid a natural gas shortage, the central government has implemented the Natural Gas Supply Regulation Order under the Essential Commodities Act of 1955. However, the cylinder shortage continues to persist. Commercial use cylinders have already been stopped.
There is currently a shortage of cylinders for household use. Puducherry Collector Kulothungan held a meeting today with gas cylinder distributors regarding this situation. It was decided to ban the use of household cylinders in hotels. Additionally, the police and the public distribution department were urged to conduct immediate joint inspections to check for such usage. Furthermore, Collector Kulothungan issued a strict order to close and seal hotels using household cylinders without any prior notice.
