Chennai: The written examination results for the appointment of 3,665 police personnel in Tamil Nadu were released yesterday.
The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board had issued a notification on Aug. 21 last year for a total of 3,665 vacancies, including Grade II Police Constables, Grade II Prison Warders, and Firemen.
The written examination for this was held on Nov. 9 last year, and the physical fitness test was conducted from Jan. 22 to Feb. 2. At a time when the final cut-off marks were to be released, a case was filed in the Supreme Court seeking permission to allow candidates who were 1 cm shorter than the prescribed height.
As a result, this selection process remained pending. Similarly, the notification for 1,299 SI posts was released on April 4 last year, and the written exam was held on Dec. 21.
Since the case related to Tamil-medium education reservation is pending in the High Court, the selection result has not been announced either. On one hand, there are 15,000 vacant posts in the police department; on the other, the situation continued in which thousands of candidates, even after completing the selection process, were unable to join duty and were waiting.
Therefore, a demand arose that the pending cases should be resolved quickly and steps should be taken to appoint the eligible candidates immediately.
In this regard, a special report was published in the ‘Hindu Tamil Thisai’ newspaper on Oct. 5 under the headline, ‘After the exams are over, thousands of young people are left waiting; delays continue in the appointment of police constables and SI posts.’
In this situation, the results of the constable examination were announced yesterday as the first phase. Similarly, the demand to also release the SI exam results has grown stronger.
