Karur: Near Karur, in grief over being separated from her husband, a woman jumped into a well and died by suicide along with her 11-year-old daughter.
Mahesh Kumar (42), a resident of Karuppapoor in the Uppidamangalam municipality near Karur, was an agricultural laborer.
About 15 years ago, he married Rekha (40), the daughter of Santhanam from Vangal Muniyappanur near Karur, and had been living in Karuppur.
The couple has an 11-year-old daughter named Reenusri. She had been studying in the sixth standard at a private school in Karur.
In this situation, due to a difference of opinion between husband and wife, it is said that about 5 years ago Mahesh Kumar left his wife and child and went away with another woman.
As a result, Rekha had been living with her child at her father’s house in Muniyappanur. In this situation, about a month ago, she went to her husband’s house in Karuppur and had been living there with her child. It is also said that Rekha had been under severe mental stress since her husband left her.
In this situation, around 3 a.m. on Monday, Rekha called her younger brother Mohan on the phone and said that she was scared and deeply distressed. Hearing this, Mohan comforted his sister and said he would come see her in the morning.
Then, around 5 a.m., Mohan received a WhatsApp message on his mobile phone saying, "Search in the well." Shocked by this, Mohan rushed to Karuppur.
When he arrived there and checked the house, relatives said that Rekha and the child were missing. Following this, Mohan searched the wells in that area along with the relatives.
At that time, Rekha and the child were found floating dead in the agricultural well of a private plantation there. Later, upon receiving information about this, Velliyanai police came to the scene and, with the help of the Karur Fire Department, recovered Rekha and the child’s bodies from the well and sent them to the Karur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
