Chennai: Information has emerged that in a meeting led by Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi, it was discussed that ‘responsible persons should soon be appointed for 110 districts in the DMK’.
After losing power in the recently concluded Assembly election, a reorganization committee was formed with the aim of strengthening the party. The committee members conducted an inspection across Tamil Nadu and submitted a report to party leader M.K. Stalin.
At the executive committee meeting held on that basis, several important resolutions were passed, including: “The number of DMK districts is being increased to 110. The maximum age for a district secretary is being fixed at 70. A district secretary can hold that post for a maximum of only three terms.”
Meanwhile, at the DMK headquarters yesterday, Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin held discussions with the reorganization committee. It has been reported that the plan was to complete the DMK internal elections before the next by-election.
DMK circles said the following: The assembly election results had demoralized DMK workers. After that, the ruling party’s arrest of our leaders and its sharp criticism gave the workers a new sense of momentum.
As a result, DMK members worked very hard in the by-election that has just concluded. That is why TVK won the by-election by a very narrow margin. DMK workers have now gained confidence that if they work a little harder, they can certainly defeat TVK.
It is in such a situation that reports have emerged that by-elections will be held soon. Following this, Udhayanidhi held discussions yesterday with members of the DMK restructuring committee.
At that time, it is said that the restructuring committee members told Udhayanidhi, “Some district secretaries have requested that the age limit for district secretaries be raised by 5 years.”
Speaking after this, he said, “The internal party election must be conducted and completed soon. Before that, district in-charges must be appointed. Soon, it should be divided into unions, town panchayats, blocks, and zones, and a report should be submitted to the DMK leadership. If there are any errors in this, they will be corrected through a non-party organization.
This internal election should be completed before the by-election, and the DMK should finish all its internal party work and be ready for the by-election. It is said that he stated that they must win the by-election.” They said this.
