By-elections
The by-election voting for the vacant single-member constituencies of Dharapuram and Madurantakam in Tamil Nadu was held on the 6th. Following this, all arrangements are being intensively made to count the votes cast in both constituencies and announce the results.
Dharapuram:
In the Dharapuram reserved constituency of Tiruppur district, a total of 22 candidates contested. Of these, 80.25 percent of votes were cast. This is 9.65 percent lower than the 89.9 percent recorded during the last Assembly general election. All 642 ballot units, 321 control units, and 337 VVPAT machines used for voting have been securely stored in the strong room at L.R.G. Government Women’s College near the Tiruppur Collector’s Office.
The postal ballot counting is expected to begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. Following that, the votes from 320 polling stations will be counted in 23 rounds, and details of the votes received by the candidates will be announced at the end of each round. More than 200 police personnel have been deployed for security around the counting center.
Madurantakam:
In the Madurantakam constituency of Chengalpattu district, 86.26 percent of votes have been cast. It is noteworthy that 93.22 percent of votes were cast here in the last general election. All the voting machines used in the 285 polling stations in this constituency have been securely stored at the counting center of the Integrated Training Center for Social Development, located in Aathur near Chengalpattu.

More than 150 police personnel have been deployed for three-tier security duty. Postal ballot counting begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. Following that, votes will be counted in 21 rounds, and the results will be announced round by round, it has been stated.
Puducherry: Thattanchavady
In the Puducherry Thattanchavady constituency, a total of 11 candidates contested, including Ashok Anand on behalf of the N.R. Congress, Vinayagam on behalf of the Congress, Sethuselvam on behalf of the DMK, and Saleem on behalf of the Communist Party of India. In the legislative assembly general election held last April, 87.10% of votes were recorded in this constituency. However, in the by-election that has now concluded, only 80.81% of votes were recorded, resulting in a 6.29% decrease in voter turnout.

All voting machines have been kept in the strong room at the Motilal Nehru Polytechnic in Lawspet and are being closely monitored under triple-layer police security. Postal ballots will be counted tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Next, the electronic voting machines will be counted in four rounds. Within an hour of the counting beginning, the initial trend on who is leading will become known.
West Bengal
Nandigram:
In the Nandigram constituency, Hasirani Rath, the mother of Suvendu Adhikari’s former aide, is contesting on behalf of the BJP. Sanjita Pradhan Dev, announced by the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, declared that she was withdrawing from the election after meeting Suvendu Adhikari. As a result, Mamata Banerjee’s camp extended support to Congress’s Milan Pradhan. In addition, from the Ritabrata Banerjee camp, Muhammad Etisamul Haque is in the fray on behalf of the Trinamool Congress, and Chandigopal Giri is contesting on behalf of the Marxist Communist Party. 80.69 percent of the votes have been cast.

Reginagar:
By-elections were held here after Humayun Kabir, the leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, who won in both the Rejinagar and Naoda constituencies, resigned from his post as MLA of the Rejinagar constituency. In this constituency, the candidates were Humayun Kabir’s son Golam Nabi Azad (Aam Janata Unnayan Party), Sagarav Sarkar from the BJP, Rafiul Alam Chowdhury from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Sabijaman Sheikh from Ridhabrata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, and Mohammad Abdullahi Kaibi from the Congress. A voter turnout of 79.90 percent was recorded in the Rejinagar constituency.
Assam: Nagaon
In the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election, 76.19% of votes have been cast. This is lower than the 85.3% voter turnout in the 2024 election. Vote counting for these constituencies will also take place tomorrow.
