Chennai: “We will form an AIADMK government again in Tamil Nadu,” said the party’s general secretary Palaniswami at the party’s 55th anniversary inauguration.
The 55th anniversary inauguration of the AIADMK was held yesterday at the party headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai. General Secretary Palaniswami, who arrived to take part in the event, was accorded a traditional full-kumbha welcome by the women’s wing. Later, Palaniswami garlanded the statues of MGR and Jayalalithaa in the office premises and paid floral tributes. He also hoisted the AIADMK flag and distributed sweets to party workers.
Following that, Palaniswami released the book titled ‘Dravidian Phoenix,’ written by Sanjay Senthilnathan, who is studying law, and created to convey the history of the AIADMK to the Gen Z generation. Later, Palaniswami distributed food and welfare assistance organized by South Chennai North (East) district secretary Aadhirajaram and Triplicane West area, East zone party secretary M.K. Maran.
He then said: The AIADMK, which was founded by MGR on this day in 1972, has now entered its 55th year. The AIADMK is a party that ruled Tamil Nadu for 31 years, celebrated its golden jubilee, and provided various schemes to the people of the state. No one can destroy this movement. The two great leaders, MGR and Jayalalithaa, faced trials and turned them into stepping stones, rising again like the phoenix bird.
Likewise, with the support of the people, the AIADMK will return to power in Tamil Nadu. On this auspicious day, let us take a vow that, for that purpose, from the headquarters office-bearers to the cadre, we will work for the people with the tireless diligence of bees and ants, day and night. He spoke thus.
At this event, the party’s presidium chairman Tamilmagan Hussain, deputy general secretary K.P. Munusamy, treasurer Dindigul Srinivasan, MP Thambidurai, former ministers C. Ponnaiyan, Agri Krishnamurthy, T. Jayakumar, B. Valarmathi, S. Gokula Indira, O.S. Manian, R. Kamaraj, and others participated.
Shanmugam, Velumani boycott: Former ministers C.V. Shanmugam and S.P. Velumani, who are dissatisfied, and their supporters did not participate in the event.
Agri Krishnamurthy question: When AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamurthy spoke to reporters, ‘‘OPS joined the DMK and contested under the rising sun symbol and won. TTV Dhinakaran is running a separate party. Similarly, in the 2026 election, Sasikala started a separate party, fielded candidates in many constituencies, and campaigned in their support.
How can all of them be brought into the party? S.P. Velumani, who says that we will bring back the AIADMK rule of MGR and Jayalalithaa, on what basis did he vote in the Assembly in support of the TVK government? Out of resentment at not being able to become a minister, some people are spreading false information to weaken the AIADMK. He is ready to welcome those who accept Palaniswami’s leadership,” he said.
