Palani: We will contest the local body elections. We will gradually contest all elections, said Annamalai, founder of the ‘We the Leaders’ organization.
In Dindigul district’s Palani Shanmuga River, members of the ‘We the Leaders’ organization carried out a cleanliness drive with the participation of the public and the cooperation of volunteers. Following the completion of this work, which had been going on for the past few weeks, a ceremony to dedicate the cleaned Shanmuga River to the public was held yesterday evening.
At the event, the organization’s founder, Annamalai, said: With the great goal of cleaning the Shanmuga River, volunteers, students, and the general public have been engaged in the work for the past 8 weeks.
It is customary for those who come to Palani to take a holy dip in the Shanmuga River and then go to the hill temple. But little by little, this river became polluted and turned into a sewer, and people began avoiding this side and going directly to the Palani hill temple.
More than 600 tons of garbage have been removed, and it has been transformed into a sacred river. Kadamba trees, which are auspicious to Lord Murugan, have been planted along the riverbank. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department does not provide the facilities needed by devotees. Everyone should cooperate so that the Shanmuga River remains as clean as it is today forever. The local administration should rectify all this. Local governance should be an autonomous system.
In the local body elections, members of “We the Leaders” will contest. Rather than asking questions in the capital, questions should be asked in the local bodies. Good and capable people in each area should be made to contest the local body elections. Kerala is a place where local administration functions properly.
Only when the village leader is given priority and made to work will things run well there. We need people who can resolve basic problems. We have not only a goal, but also a vision. We also have a long-term perspective. We will contest not only the local body elections but, step by step, all elections. He said this.
