Chennai: The police informed the High Court that, in connection with the case, they waited for an hour and a half outside the lawyer’s office and arrested former minister Anbil Mahesh, who had come there for consultation.
The petition filed by DMK former minister Anbil Mahesh seeking to quash the case registered against him, in which he is accused of collecting over Rs. 400 crore by claiming to secure permanent recognition for private schools and engaging in fraud, came up again for hearing yesterday before Justice V. Latchumi Narayan.

At that time, the state government’s Chief Public Prosecutor John Sathyan and Additional Public Prosecutor Arun Anbumani said, “Anbil Mahesh has now been arrested and lodged in prison.
A petition seeking bail has been filed in the special court on his behalf. On the police side, we have also filed a petition seeking five days’ custody.
In this case, former MLA Muthukkumar, who had been absconding, surrendered today (yesterday) before the Special Court for Prevention of Corruption. Therefore, this case should not be quashed,” they argued.
At that time, senior advocate P. Wilson, appearing on behalf of Anbil Mahesh, said, “Because this court dismissed the petition filed seeking anticipatory bail for Anbil Mahesh, police rule is prevailing in Tamil Nadu to the extent that more than 40 police personnel trespassed into my office premises and arrested Anbil Mahesh, who had come to my office and consulted me about approaching the Supreme Court as the next step. Nothing like this has ever happened anywhere before,” he alleged.
Court rejects
At that time, on the police side, we arrested Anbil Mahesh after waiting outside the office for about an hour and a half.
We did not forcibly enter the senior lawyer’s office and arrest him. The anti-corruption special court has also rejected this allegation,’ it was stated.
Following that, the judge instructed that a petition be filed along with video evidence related to this, and has adjourned the hearing on the petition filed by Anbil Mahesh seeking to quash the case to Nov. 10.
Order to respond to the bail petition
A petition had been filed on behalf of Anbil Mahesh in the Chennai Special Court for Prevention of Corruption, seeking bail for him.
Similarly, the Central Crime Branch police had also filed a petition in the special court seeking permission to take Anbil Mahesh into custody for 5 days for interrogation.
The hearing on these petitions came up for hearing yesterday before Judge L.S. Sathiya Moorthy in the Chennai Special Court for Prevention of Corruption.
At that time, the police requested time to respond to Anbil Mahesh’s bail petition. Accepting that request, the judge has adjourned the hearing on Anbil Mahesh’s bail petition and the petition seeking permission to take him into custody for questioning to Nov. 2.
